Sanctuary’s Story

History

The Sanctuary was founded by Bill and Freda Hanks, who envisioned enhancing the beauty and economy of this Central Texas area. Located on 300 acres in Salado, Texas, Sanctuary has been carefully planned and developed by the Sanctuary Development Company. As a mixed-use, master-planned community, it offers locals and visitors alike a place to stay, eat, play, shop, explore, and more.

Heritage

Honoring the uniqueness of the land and the water that brings it life was the foundational planning element to the Sanctuary. Treasuring the numerous legacy oak trees was a pillar, as well; an ancient oak tree, one of the largest in the county, has a place of honor in the forthcoming Hanks Family Park. A creek anchors the eastern boundary, and the legacy family lakes create a sense of place in the North Neighborhood that is rare to find in Central Texas. This connectivity with the natural landscape has only grown in value in today’s world and has been a defining trait of the Sanctuary.
